Assessment of Pollution Status of River Ajali in Enugu State Using water quality index

Abstract The physico-chemical and microbial examination of Ajali River in Ezeagu Local Government Area (LGA) Enugu State, South-eastern Nigeria, were carried out to assess the characteristics water for potability. Water samples collected from three sampling points, including one close brewery effluent discharge into river two different points that affected by non-point sources. Altogether, eighteen years during dry, early late rainy seasons. physico-chemical, as well analyses samples, determined following standard methods. Significant spatial seasonal variations (p<0.05) clear some parameters such pH, phosphate, sodium. Mean values Quality Index (WQI) were: dry season (104.23±9.75); (113.22±8.78) (102.58 ± 11.15). All are above 100 showing calculated WQI all seasons is not good however after addition lime, boiling filtering increase quality.
